Exercise was not always an enjoyable experience for me. When I was younger, I was plagued by asthma, a respiratory illness that was worsened by exercise so I shyed away from sports and physical activity. I had my first experience with weight training when I was 15 years old. An older friend had challenged me to lift a moderate amount of weight on a bench press and when I failed to succcesfully rep the weight, it came down crashing on my chest where it remained for what felt an eternity. My friends laughed heartily as I struggled to press the weight off of my chest. I remember that my feet were flailing about and just how embarassed and weak I felt. From that moment I vowed to never be the weakest person in the room. I allowed my pain and humiliation to serve as the catalyst for my fitness journey.
